Furmint 2023

Furmint 2023 is a white wine from Csopak with a unique character; unlike the typical profile of the variety, it is built not only on minerality and crispness, but also on ripe fruitiness, aromatic richness, and harmony. The wine is made from 100% estate-grown Furmint, sourced from the Hegyalja vineyard—this was our last Furmint vintage from this area.

The grapes were harvested in the first half of September. Despite the rainier weather in 2023, the harvest yield remained low; however, the grapes were processed in an exceptionally beautiful, ripe state, providing an excellent foundation for creating a richer yet elegant Furmint.

During processing, we followed the gentle technology used for our white wines. After careful destemming and crushing, the grapes were transferred using a peristaltic mash pump, minimizing oxidation and mechanical stress. The grapes underwent immediate pneumatic pressing at low pressure to ensure that only the purest must fractions were processed.

Following must clarification, fermentation took place at a controlled temperature of 18 °C in a reductive environment, which helped preserve the wine’s fruity and aromatic character. Before bottling, the wine is clarified and filtered, resulting in a clean, harmonious, and elegantly structured wine. The wine was aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, then released after an additional 3 months of bottle aging.

The nose features citrus, white-fleshed fruit, and delicate floral notes, complemented by ripe fruit tones. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet lively and easy to drink, with its vibrant acidity beautifully balancing the wine’s rich texture.

Furmint 2023 showcases the variety’s classic character in a mature, harmonious, and fruit-forward style. Its full-bodied structure, lively acidity, and aromatic notes provide both depth and excellent drinkability, allowing the wine to represent the seriousness typical of Furmint with elegance and balance.

An excellent choice for fish dishes, poultry, creamier dishes, aged cheeses, or even on its own for more in-depth wine tastings.
